Jefferson Awards Foundation Teams Up with ProAct Indy
Service-learning organizations Jefferson Awards Foundation, ProAct Indy offer Leadership Conferences to Central Indiana Teens.
Indianapolis, IN – September 11, 2017: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ProAct Indy is a critical service-learning organization that leverages the social capital of the community to inspire, delight, and educate disadvantaged boys and girls and engage them in public service. Since its inception, ProAct has engaged over 6,000 boys and girls in service to Indianapolis through its innovative programs with a goal to engage 20,000 youth in service by 2020. Jefferson Awards Foundation Indianapolis does great philanthropic work that benefits many companies, nonprofits and families in Marion County and beyond. The Foundation is partnering with Indianapolis-based service-learning organization, ProAct Indy to provide a meaningful leadership development opportunity for teens participating in the Jefferson Awards Foundation’s Students in Action program. This partnership will help teens grow and develop as servant-leaders through dynamic leadership conferences occurring this fall and winter. The initiative has these features:
- Develop a vocabulary for and understanding of ways to serve others in the school community.
- Expose participating students, staff, and families to a variety of opportunities for service learning.
- Complete a service learning project that includes Student in Action program participants.
- Increase social and community awareness of differences between people and recognize the value of serving the community at large.
- Increase positive social interactions between students through mentoring and relationship building.
- Conduct trainings that achieve the seven goals of the Students in Action program.
By leading projects and providing education, the Jefferson Awards Foundation and ProAct Indy will serve over 300 teens in Marion and Tippecanoe Counties through the leadership conferences occurring on:
Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Ivy Tech Culinary Arts and Conference Center, Indpls, IN
Friday, November 17, 2017 at Subaru Indiana Automotive in Lafayette, IN
Friday, January 19, 2018 at University of Indianapolis
Friday January 26, 2018 at Subaru Automotive in Lafayette, IN
The two agencies hope to continue to build upon a relationship that has greater impact on teens in Marion and Tippecanoe counties, the Greater Indianapolis community, and nonprofit and corporate communities.
